A Letter to My Younger Self

Dear 15 Year Old Me,

What if I told you that the things are you worried about now will not be nearly half as important or as scary as you make think in the future? I am going to tell you something that I want you to always remember; you are worth it, your past does not define you and you are good enough.

Right now you are in grade 11 and about to turn 16 years old and are definitely confused about life. I know that right now you think you are heart broken and it is the end of the world but it really is not. You deserve to be treated with respect, dignity and love. You cannot allow anyone and I mean anyone make you feel less than you are or tell you that you deserve less than you know you deserve. You are a bright student, a loving individual and a kind person. You are worth someone treating you like the sun rises and falls around you. You are worth respect, honesty, loyalty and compassion. You are a good person and no one should ever make you feel otherwise. You should focus on being a teenager, be happy, be carefree and focus on your education so that you can reach your full potential.

I know that you feel you are tainted by things you have seen and experienced as a child. I want to tell you that none of that was your fault. You were a child and there are things that a child is not responsible for and things that are just simply not in your control. How you grew up, where you come from and your past experiences do not define who you are. It also does not define who you are and who you want to me. You have to realize that people come from all walks of life and go thru things that you could only imagine. Just remember that what does not kill you, makes you stronger and you are stronger than the things you have been thru. It may not seem so right now but i know that you can and will get through all the feelings you feel right now.

Finally, I want you to know that you are good enough. You are good enough to be treated properly, to ask for the things you want and need as well as good enough to achieve your goals and aspirations. No one should ever make you feel like you are not good enough for anything and that includes yourself. You are smart, beautiful, talented, motivated, kind, caring, loving and have a good heart. You need to love, respect and admire yourself before you can expect or accept it from anyone else. I want you to look at yourself and really see the greatness and potential that you possess. Do not let anyone get in the way of the things you want or need in this world.

In parting, I want to live up to your potential, be happy, be loved and live your life to the fullest.

Sincerely,

27 Year Old Nicole
