It has been about a month and a half since I consciously decided to start my fitness journey and it has been a journey I must say. I started this journey because I wanted to fall in love with my body, I wanted to be healthier and feel better internally and externally. What I have come to realize with this journey is that it has a lot to with mindset, accountability and independence. Yes you have to do the work with healthy eating and exercise but it also has to do with lifestyle changes, creating new habits, staying busy, not obsessing and definitely not comparing yourself or journey to anyone else’s.
I have some good updates and some not so good updates.
I am proud to say that I have lost about 20 pounds since January 1. I have cut sugar out of my diet and I am drinking a lot more water, mainly sparkling water with lemon. I have also cut down drastically on my fast food intake. I have slowly been introducing exercise and stretching into my mornings but not to where I feel I should be. I have not been focusing on what my physical goals to be other than losing weight and fitting into certain types of clothes. I realize I never thought about things like flexibility, stamina and strength. I have never been able to stand and touch my toes, no matter what my size and this has become one of my goals for 2019. While trying to do so exercises, I realized just how out of shape I was and smoking only makes my fitness level worse. I have decreased the number of cigarette I smoke, but I have not quit cold turkey.
For the next 30 days, I have decided to focus on my flexibility, stamina and strength. I also will be looking for help when it comes to exercising. Personally, I love zumba but I will be trying other activities like yoga and pilates on my own. I thought about joining a gym but I have done that many times and I has not been successful when sticking to it long term. I have decided that Youtube will be my personal trainer, I have committed to doing full body stretching and yoga or pilates. My goals is within 60 days, to be able to at least touch my toes. I will also be working on cutting back on smoking and caffeine intake. I have been drinking a lot more coffee & tea and this seems to be another unhealthy habit I am starting to develop.
Since losing weight I have noticed that my clothes are fitting differently. from my jeans to leggings to bras and underwear. I thought about updating my wardrobe to reflect these changes but I do want to lose more weight and inches and feel like it would be a waste of money. I recently started watching a show on Netflix called, Bringing Sexy Back. It has actually motivated me more to be healthier and work out more, the only difference is they have a lot of family and friends to support them and I do not. I will have to draw on my inner strength and determination to reach my goals. They do make lifestyle changes, but i appreciate the show because it shows people that it is not easy, there are obstacles and challenges but it is possible. I have decided to do my own version of Bringing Sexy Back, but there is some planning I have to do before then.
Here are the steps needed
- choose a end date/ occasion
- clean out fridge, cupboards and freezer
- find healthy recipes
- find exercise activities
- buy a full length mirror
- buy a digital scale
- decide on hair, make up and hairstyle to complete journey
I will keep you all updated on my journey and I will start sharing more photos on social media. Leave a comment with ideas, advice or tips for being your best healthiest self.
