Hello Cheese Lover

For people that do not know me, I am lactose intolerant. However, I love cheese but I’m picky about the types of cheese and how they are prepared. Cheese is one of those foods that you can do so much with; you can melt it, shred it and spread it. Here are some of my favourite cheese dishes.

Poutine

I love poutines. I first fell in love with poutine in high school due to a small restaurant right across that street that sold poutine for $4.00 in a huge take out container. I love cheese curds however I have made some delicious poutine using mozzarella cheese as well. My favourite places that sell poutine would have to be Smoke’s Poutinerie and KFC. Smoke’s Poutinerie has every type of poutine you can think of with all the topping you could ever want. The last one I had was the nacho poutine which included; cheese, gravy, sour cream, salsa and guacamole. The poutine was KFC is also so great. I love their gravy so that plus cheese curds is heaven for me.

Grilled Cheese
Now this is a just simply a classic. I love a good grilled cheese done properly, meaning the bread slightly burned and with ketchup for dipping. I have had many types of grilled cheeses and made very differently, my least favourite being a classic grilled cheese with ketchup inside the sandwich.

Cheese Board

In 2015 I became obsessed with cheese and charcuterie boards. At first I started off with the basics; cheddar cheese and marble cheese. But I have become a bit more adventurous over time and have delved into Havarti, provolone and smoke Gouda. Smoked Gouda cheese has a distinct flavor and it does take some getting used to. I love to pair these cheeses with deli meat such as Cajun turkey breast, roasted chicken breast, hot salami and prosciutto.

Cheez-Whiz
This is an unhealthy cheese product and I am not even sure this can be considered cheese but it is sure tasty. Some of my fondest memories growing up are from being in daycare. The chef Mrs. W was a magnificent cook but one thing all us kids would request would be cheez-whiz on English muffins and then toasted in the oven. Mmmmm, I can remember it being crispy, cheesy and just delicious. I have not eaten cheez-whiz in over 10 years but it does hold a special place in my heart.

Final Fav: Cream Cheese

My love for cream cheese started young and has only gotten stronger. There is so much that can be done with cream cheese and so many flavor combinations that it can never be boring. Some of my favorite flavours of cream cheese are, smoked salmon and herb & garlic. Growing up I was the only one in my family to like smoked salmon cream cheese so it was a rare occurrence in my household. My favourite ways to have cream cheese would be in cheesecake form with some caramel, pecans and whip cream. But I do love cream cheese and strawberry danishes, bagels with cream cheese and even spinach dip.

What are your favourite cheeses and how do you like it???
